This article is meant to describe what the United States of America was like demographically in 1965. It is important to see what the United States was like in 1965 because it is after this year that the demographic structure of the United States makes a drastic change, one that is abundantly noticeable only 50 years later.

America was comprized of 89% 'White' people in 1965, acording to data from the US Census Bureau. And 85% of Americans were non-Hispanic whites. That is, the vast majority of the population had a completely European ethnic and cultural background.

Up to this point, America could be described as an expansion of Western Civilization into North America. The language, economy, technology, religious beliefs, architecture, and cultural heritage were all in keeping with the history of Europe and European people.

More specifically, the people of America were primarily descended from the people of Northern Europe. People from The United Kingdom and Germany made up the vast majority of immigrants to the United States. With smaller numbers coming out of Ireland, France, Canada, Italy, and Russia.
